Walking Together

The culture really does unite, despite the age!

"Walking Together" - when the culture unites generations.

This year Good Deeds Day became an opportunity not only for help but also for unity through art, history, and personal meetings. The "Walking Together" action, organized by the Republican Volunteer Center, gave the elderly an opportunity to go out in town, dive into the cultural environment, and spend time in the kind company of volunteers.

Six groups were formed, each one of which was going to one of the six museums of Chisinau. Each group included both elderly participants and volunteers, who provided assistance, support, and companionship for communication, sharing impressions, taking pictures, and making new discoveries.

Our goals were simple yet important:

— to create a warm and meaningful space for open communication

— to reduce the feeling of isolation, which is familiar to the elderly

— to make an occasion for the elderly to go out in town to feel its dynamics again

— and, obviously, to support intergenerational dialogue through the mutual cultural experience

During the walk, participants weren't only looking at expositions; they were sharing their recollections, discussing paintings, and telling one another personal stories connected to art and history. For volunteers it became a reminder that the attention and participation are not less important than exhibitions themselves.

We want to express our utmost gratitude to the museums, which supported an action and gave us free tickets for our participants:

— Museum of History of Chisinau

— National Museum of History of Moldova

— National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History

— National Museum of Arts of Moldova

— Museum "Sensorica"

— House-Museum of A.S. Pushkin

The culture really does unite, despite the age.

And we are glad that on this day it became a lively opportunity for new meetings, walks, smiles, and dialogues that do not end even after the exhibition ends.
