Shabbat Guest – A Weekly Tradition

Origins of Mercy is not just about making life easier for elderly people—it’s also about providing emotional support

Every day, the Republican Volunteer Center (RVC) carries out an important mission: assisting elderly individuals for whom daily tasks can become real challenges. Our volunteers accompany them on walks, help with shopping at stores and pharmacies, and actively participate in organizing traditional events that bring warmth and meaning to their lives.

A special focus of our work is preserving traditions passed down from generation to generation. Recently, one of our volunteers celebrated the arrival of the "Shabbat Queen" together with an elderly beneficiary, following all the rituals of Shabbat. Moments like these allow seniors to once again feel part of the community, reconnect with cherished traditions, and find comfort in the familiar customs that nurture their inner world.

The Origins of Mercy project is more than just a social assistance program. We strive not only to ease the daily lives of elderly people but also to provide emotional support and help them combat loneliness. Many seniors often feel left alone with their problems, unappreciated, or forgotten. Our volunteers work to ensure that this doesn’t happen. They help beneficiaries feel part of society, which is especially crucial for those facing health limitations or living alone.

One of the project’s key goals is preserving and passing on traditions, strengthening intergenerational bonds. We believe that culture and tradition serve as a bridge between the past and the future. By involving young people in working with the elderly, we nurture their respect and care for the older generation. RVC volunteers are more than just helpers—they become true friends to our beneficiaries. These connections enrich both sides: young people gain wisdom and patience, while seniors discover a new world of support and understanding.

If you feel the desire to help, make a difference in someone’s life, and become part of a project that truly makes the world a warmer place, we always welcome new volunteers. At the Republican Volunteer Center, you will find like-minded people who, like you, want to make the world a better place. You have the power to give someone care, attention, and heartfelt warmth.

Let’s create kindness together and bring warmth to those who need it most! Join us and help make the world brighter and kinder.
