Golden Disco for the elderly
On November 5, the International Elderly Day, the RVC hosted a bright and truly sweet evening - Golden Disco.
Golden Disco: a celebration where generations meet. It brought together elder participants and volunteers. This event was inspired by the music of the 70s and 80s - a time when dance floors shone like mirrorballs, and every song became the soundtrack of youth.
Thanks to volunteers, we were able to recreate the interior, familiar to many from those cozy apartments of bygone decades: with soft lighting, vinyl records, and a touch of retro nostalgia. We paid special attention to the dress code - "I have nowhere to wear this."
This idea was born from a simple observation: we all have things we carefully store away "for a special occasion," but never quite get around to taking them out. We wanted to create an event where you can indulge in a little sparkle, chic, and freedom - where everyone has a reason to wear something special.
The dance floor was filled with songs that our elder friends once danced to at school parties, college proms, and family celebrations. Volunteers and participants danced together, and even the younger crowd joined in with the familiar tunes - after all, many hits from the 70s and 80s live on today in new covers and sound no less fresh. The program also included games, including "Forfeits," quizzes, and questions about the past, which sparked conversations and stories. A highlight of the evening was Anatoly's performance, playing his wife's favorite songs on guitar.
Golden Disco became more than just a celebration. It was an evening of memories, music, open hearts, and genuine human warmth.
We thank all the volunteers who helped create a vibe of comfort and joy and all the participants for their emotions, smiles, and dancing, who proved that age does not matter when music is playing in the soul.
